The word yoga is a Sanskrit term that comes from the root "yuj"
meaning "to unite". It is an ancient science of health that
ultimately leads to the union between mind, body and the divine. It's
many benefits include: reducing back pain, stimulating weight loss, improving
strength & flexibility, correcting postural defects, improving stress
management, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and helping
one to connect with their innermost Self and experience universal bliss.
Home Yoga:
Home Yoga provides you with a personally designed yoga practice
that you can do in the convenience and comfort of your own home. Whether
you're recovering from an injury, turned off by large group classes, a
stay at home Mom or simply enjoy the personal attention and convenience
of a private in-home class, Home Yoga is for you. I offer an insightful,
in-depth approach to yoga that accommodates your specific needs. Classes
are designed to suit your level and goals while continually challenging
you to go deeper into your practice. Each class begins with pranayama
(special breathing techniques), a general warm up, specific asanas (yoga
postures) to strengthen and open the body, a savasana (rest period) and
a guided meditation. A kirtan session (the chanting of a specifically
chosen mantra) can be included if desired. What better place to feel relaxed,
refreshed and renewed than in the comfort of your home?
Office Yoga: Taking an hour or 45 minutes during lunch to practice
yoga at the office is not unheard of in today's corporate world. It is
well known that yoga can improve one's ability to concentrate and one's
mood. Stress management through yoga and meditation can prevent many of
the diseases associated with stress that commonly affect today's workers.
Therefore, employees who practice yoga are less likely to miss work due
to sickness. For Office Yoga, I will design a class that welcomes different
levels of ability and that takes into account the muscle groups affected
by long hours sitting in front a computer or speaking on a phone. Employees
will return to work feeling ready to take on any challenge or task with
calmness and clarity!
Prenatal/postnatal Yoga:
Pregnancy and the months after a baby is born are times of extreme changes
for a woman's body, mind and emotions. Yoga is a wonderful way for a woman
to prepare for birth by helping her connect to the growing fetus inside
her, calm any fears or anxieties she may have about the birth process
and motherhood and cope with the physical challenges of pregnancy and
birth. Specific asanas will address the muscular and postural systems
that are affected by carrying a fetus. The class will also cover poses
that help ease labor. After a woman's baby is born is another great time
for her to begin yoga. Specific asanas help bring the uterus back to its
normal size, strengthen the abdominal muscles and relieving the muscular
strain and fatigue that comes from holding and nursing a baby. Postnatal
yoga can also be done with your baby! It's great way to bond with the
baby and makes your practice even more fun!
Kid's Yoga:
Today's children, with their busy schedules and the demands of schooling,
are often more in need of the stress relieving effects of yoga than we
realize. Yoga provides kids with a non-competitive, fun environment in
which to connect with their bodies, minds and spirits. It helps them build
positive self-esteem and teaches them to have compassion towards themselves
and others. Yoga has proven particularly effective for kids with Attention
Deficit Disorder and Autism. For my kid's yoga classes, I use visual aids,
non-competitive games, group poses, songs and stories to encourage cooperation,
play, and address different ways of learning.
