Kelly began studying yoga almost ten years ago as a complement to her dance training. After moving to New York in 2001, she found that yoga's holistic, invigorating and non-competitive practices moved more and more to the foreground of her life. Kelly had the good fortune to begin practicing at Be Yoga under the guidance of Beverley Murphy, Alan Finger and Jean Koerner and at Bodhisattva Yoga with vinyasa teacher, Vivekan. She received her yoga teacher training in the Ishta Yoga lineage at Be Yoga, which focuses on adapting yoga to the individual's needs through proper asana, breathwork and meditation.
Kelly has been teaching classes at YogaWorks and Bodhisattva Yoga in Brooklyn since 2004. She has six years of experience working with children at the Little Red School House. There she has taught yoga to groups of adventurous three to seven-year-olds, incorporating the use of games, songs and play. Most recently, Kelly assisted an incredible two-week retreat to South India with Alan Finger, Mona Anand and Sarah Platt. She has also assisted retreats with Beverley Murphy and Alan in lovely Mar de Jade, Mexico.
Along with the influence of her teachers, Kelly's style is inspired by a deep respect of anatomy, the somatic practices of Body Mind Centering, her dance training and a wish to see more New Yorkers take a deep breath and relax!
She hopes that your yoga practice encourages you to give your best effort regardless of results, to live in a more fully embodied way, and to be happy right where you are.
